We’re on our way!
First stop…a KOA in Kentucky for a one-night stop over! The drive from Bristol to Kentucky was beautiful – we were able to go on back roads almost the whole way! (always better than the interstate!)
Bob and Bobbi arrived a couple of hours later and we enjoyed a nice dinner in the trailer – excitedly talking about the next two months and all the amazing things we will do and see!
After a relaxing night and an even better night’s sleep – we sleep GREAT in the trailer! – we headed off the next morning…first adventure, BARDSTOWN, KENTUCKY!!! Bardstown is the bourbon capital of the world! (means nothing to me, but Leonard likes a nice glass of bourbon)

The name of our campground in Bardstown was “Lit’l Patch of Heaven”! When we pulled in, we could instantly see why that was the name! It was a small piece of property that bordered a big fishing pond. We had two sites right by the water, which was beautiful!
After we got all unhooked and set up, we headed off to explore Bardstown a bit – we had seen a YouTube video of great places to eat there, so we headed off to HEAVEN HILL DISTILLERY – there is a restaurant upstairs called Five Brothers, which is where we ended up for lunch.
After a nice lunch, we headed downstairs to look through the gift shop – I never knew there were so many bourbon themed gifts one could get! Haha
After a nice day seeing the area, we came back to the campground and sat outside for the evening! We met a wonderful couple who were camping next to us and they came over and spent the evening with us!
It’s so fun to meet people at campgrounds and there are times when you realize that, if they lived where we did, we would be friends! Eric and Gina were two of these people! Thanks for coming and hanging out with us, Eric and Gina! Have a great time on YOUR next adventure!
One of the reasons Leonard wanted to go through Bardstown was to tour the Maker’s Mark Distillery and dip a bourbon bottle in wax! Off we went for our tour!
Maker’s Mark is a beautiful, National Historic Landmark Distillery nestled in the hills of Star Hill Farm. Bill Samuels, Sr. started the distillery wish a vision to create a whisky he would like!
His wife Margie created the name Maker’s Mark and also the bottle design. Margie LOVED art, and she loved pewter – as she was collecting the artwork, she realized that each piece showed the MARK of the MAKER – thus the name Maker’s Mark!
In 1958, the first bottle was finished and hand dipped with red wax. And then in 1980, a Wall Street Journal article introduced the world to Maker’s Mark!
The main building where you check in was amazing! So much beautiful artwork since Margie loved art so much!
Maker’s Mark Distillery worked with over 100 Kentucky artists and turned the Private Selection bottles into works of art! Here are some of the amazing works of art!
The hour-long tour was amazing – so many things to see and to learn about! It’s amazing to see how MANY barrels of bourbon are aging at a time! Each barrel produces 250 bottles of bourbon!
One of the coolest things was to see the workers checking and dipping each bottle that goes by…You could tell they had been doing this a long time – they are experts! I asked one of the gals if she would dip a bottle for my video and she did!

After the tour of the distillery, we ended in the tasting room!
The last glass in the photo is water, and that’s the only one I tasted! Haha – I am not a bourbon fan at all! But it was fun to be in there and here the descriptions of each kind and to watch Leonard and all the people in our tour group enjoy them!
Our tour guide, Jessica, was lively and so much fun!
After the tour, we made our way to the gift shop, which is also where people can buy a bottle of bourbon and hand dip it in the distinguishable red wax!
I enjoyed watching Leonard and Bob do this, and they had so much fun!
It was a great day and one that Leonard especially will remember! This was on his bucket list and we can check it off!
That evening brought another night sitting outside relaxing and talking about the day! This camping life is great, and I sure could get used to it!
The next “real” stop is Moab, Utah!!! It will take us three other stopover cities to get there – Columbia, Missouri, Hays, Kansas, and Longmont, Colorado! There probably won’t be much to tell, but who knows???? We never know what a day will bring!

Columbia ,Missouri is our halfway stop when we drive to Boulder.
Hays, Kansas to Longmont is a long stretch of “flat”. That’s usually when I take over driving.😂
Longmont, CO is a cute little town. We often go to a Mexican restaurant there when we visit Jamie in Boulder.
