MORE OREGON COAST!

Posted on August 24, 2026August 24, 2026

Next coastal stop – FLORENCE OREGON!

Our campground this time is Heceta Beach RV Park and it’s so pretty here!  Each campsite is surrounded by trees and it’s very quiet and peaceful!

After getting the trailers set up, we headed off for a new adventure! Destination, River Roasters Coffee!  We have not had a yummy coffee drink from a yummy coffee shop in a while! I had an iced mocha that was DELISH!  River Roasters Coffee is a great little coffee shop on the Siuslaw River and is in a converted auto garage and motor repair shop.  Their motto is “The best roast on the coast” – I would have to agree! Somehow I did NOT get a photo of my drink – too bad, because you all would have wanted to RUN and grab an iced mocha somewhere! Haha I did get a picture of the coffee shop and the river behind it – and some fun art work outside!

Exploring the town of Florence was fun – lots of little shops and restaurants all along the river – Leonard and Bob especially enjoyed the shopping – hahaha!

After the coffee and the shopping, we headed out along the coast to see the Heceta Head Lighthouse – one of the most photographed spots on the Oregon coast – you’ll see why in a second!  The drive to it was so beautiful because the road was right on the coast!  It never gets old to look out on the Pacific Ocean and see the water, the waves, the sand, the rocks!  Amazing!

All of a sudden, you come around a corner, and there is the lighthouse in the distance!

It was breathtaking – especially with the fog everywhere! The great thing is that you don’t have to just look at it from afar, but you get to hike right up to it!  Of course we did!

There is also a guest house that can be rented – the whole house or just a room – imagine spending the night up there or having a wedding up there or anything else you can imagine!  It would be spectacular!

Every time we go see a new thing on this trip, we are just amazed at the beauty of it all!  All of us keep saying this:  “we’re not sure our photos are doing this justice” because it’s so incredibly pretty and hard to “translate” to you all!  But I’m trying! Here is a cool video of the light on top of the lighthouse!

After another full day, we headed back to the campground so we could have dinner and relax for the night – guess what’s for dinner?  BLTs!  Sounds like a simple and maybe silly thing, but we were all so excited about them!  Leonard cooked maple bacon on the Blackstone and the campground all of a sudden smelled delicious! A few minutes later we had all the fixins’  for the sandwiches!  Here is our set up for having dinner!

Here are a few photos also of our trailer so you can see where we spend our days and nights on this two month trip!  It’s small but cozy!

A new day came after another GREAT night’s sleep!  This day included several things:

*CAPE PERPETUA

*CAPE PERPETUA OVERLOOK

*THOR’S WELL

*DEVIL’S CHURN

These were ALL amazing – enjoy the photos and videos of each!

CAPE PERPETUA – a stunning 2,700 acre coastal attraction.  It features  the highest vehicle-accessible viewpoint on the Oregon Coast!

CAPE PERPETUA OVERLOOK – this is a lookout at the very top of a mountain – with a several mile uphill drive that winds through the forest – at the top there is an historic stone shelter built in the 1930s – it offers 70 mile ocean views!

When we were up there, the fog rolled in so our view was limited!  BUT it was spectacular – the video shows the fog literally moving in as we stood there!

THOR’S WELL – this is a 20 foot deep circular sinkhole in the rock that creates the illusion of the ocean draining away!

ENJOY THE VIDEOS!!!

DEVIL’S CHURN – this is a narrow, wave-carved chasm that explodes with sea spray when the waves crash into the rocks! Amazing!

Here’s a cool video!

After a full day sightseeing in amazement, we stopped in the town of YACHATS (pronounced Ya-Hots) to do a little shopping and have lunch!  Once again we had seen a restaurant that we decided to try – THE LUNA SEA (get it?) FISH HOUSE.  And…once again it did NOT disappoint!

After Leonard and I shared fish and chips, we shared a delicious coffee from a place called Dream Machine Coffee –  all I can say is YUMMMMMMMMMMM…..

For old people, we sure did a lot today – it felt good to walk and marvel at God’s creation, hike up and down hills, watch the power of water in the ocean, enjoy good food and coffee…

Back to the campground for the night – lots more to do tomorrow and the next month and a half!  Tomorrow we head to Garabaldi, home of Tillamook Cheese and Ice Cream!  For those of you who know me, you know I am looking forward to the ice cream part!!!

I’ll report back of course!

UNTIL NEXT TIME…

T minus 2 days and counting. I washed the Airstream, packed up the truck and Sharon started the thorough clean inside. A few things needed from the store and a fill up and we will be headed out to Lubbock Tuesday AM!!
