We made it across on the ferry and headed to our campground! After a wonderful night’s sleep at a beautiful campground (Town and Country Motorcoach and RV Park), we headed out for the next destination – North Cascades National Park and a campground in Winthrop, Washington!
We didn’t know anything about Winthrop, Washington, and it turned out to be such a bright little spot on this trip! It is a small, western-themed town that is styled to look like an 1890s to 1900s Old West frontier town, complete with wooden boardwalks and rustic false-front buildings. And because of the town’s theme, our campground was called the PINE NEAR (get it?) RV PARK! Clever!
The campground was so peaceful and beautiful, with each site being totally grass. There was no gravel or pavement, which was actually a nice change – it looked like we were in a giant meadow filled with trailers and motor homes! In fact, the first night we were there, we were in the trailer and looked out the window and saw this!
Each day and evening the turkeys and the deer would appear and graze in the grass around our trailer! What a wonderful place it was – their office was even decorated with a Western theme!
These two days in Winthrop were very relaxing, with a lot of time spent hanging out at the campground – it was a nice break from constantly being on the go. However, we did see a couple of amazing things, once again showing the majesty of God’s creation!
On the way to our campground, we went through North Cascades National Park, and WOW WOW WOW!
The scenery was spectacular and there were several overlook points that we pulled off to see!
Waterfalls…

While we were driving, we could see the fog rolling in at the top of the mountain…it was so pretty, until it was totally upon us in the truck and we couldn’t see a thing! After a few minutes of the thick fog, we descended the mountain and the fog began to clear!
After settling in at the campground, we headed off to see another waterfall – this one was just a mere .3 miles from the parking area, and we weren’t sure what it would be like, since it wasn’t a big hike up to or down to a waterfall…as soon as we got out of the truck and started on the path to the waterfall, we had a feeling it was going to be great because we could hear the rush of the water! It was exciting to walk and wonder what it was going to look like! All of a sudden, we turned a corner and, again, WOW! WOW! WOW!
We spent a while just sitting there on the rocks and enjoying the water and the scenery around the waterfall…it’s amazing what water can do!

Most of the time we have dinner at the campgrounds or in our trailer, but we decided to head off and find a place for dinner outside of the campground. Sun Mountain Lodge was just a few minutes drive from the campground, and it had been recommended by the campground hosts.
The drive up to the lodge was so beautiful and the view at the top was amazing! Their website boasts “over 3,000 acres of magnificent wilderness as your private playground, and the lodge offering fun-filled activities for every age and ability.” The décor of the lodge was fun, and the meal was delicious!! We all decided that dinner at Sun Mountain Lodge was a great choice! I just can’t believe I forgot to take photos of our dinner!
What a wonderful and relaxing two days we had in Winthrop, Washington! So glad we stopped there – a hidden little gem we never knew about and now we do!!
Before I sign off, there is something I want to share with you all…if you’ve been following this trip, you know that we have been to so many waterfalls (which is my favorite thing to do) and we have enjoyed all of them – watching the flowing water over mountains and rocks, down to pools of beautiful clear and blue water…sometimes mesmerized by the flowing water and the rush of it over the mountain…
This morning as I write this, Leonard is doing his devotion, listening to an awesome preacher named Brian Trent – after it was over, he said I HAD to listen to it because it tied perfectly into our trip!
Let me share what he said… he had gone hiking with his family to see a waterfall, and it was beautiful and crowded with lots of others who wanted to see it also! As they were hiking back, there was a dry riverbed near that waterfall…rocks that had once had water flowing over them…even a pool at the bottom that was dried up where clear water once was! No one was there admiring that area where a waterfall HAD been!!Because of the rocks and riverbed and dried up pool, it was clear that it was evidence of water that USED to flow!
In the Bible, John chapter 7 shows Jesus saying “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”
The word is FLOW – not just a tiny bit of water coming out, but RIVERS of FLOWING water – like a waterfall!!!! God wants to FILL us with so much that it flows out of me! I thought about that when Brian Trent said it, and I wondered…is Jesus flowing out of me and my heart and my life? Am I SO filled that it comes out like a waterfall, or does it drip out like something that used to be there?
I just wanted to share that to encourage you all, and I am going to pray and ask God to keep me filled – and keep me flowing! There are people everywhere who need to see that – I don’t want them to hear stories about what USED to flow from me.
I will never see a waterfall the same way again!!!
Next destination – GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK! One of our favorite places we have been, and we feel blessed to be able to go back! In between, we have a couple of travel days to get there, so I’ll be back after the Grand Tetons!! I can’t wait to share it with you!

I think you should see every waterfall in the U.S. You guys are well on your way. Lol.
I like the analogy of the waterfall to Jesus’ message. Like a waterfall that refreshes the land and life around it, I think as we strive to be closer to Christ we can become an example of His life-giving presence and do all we can to show others the One who is the true source of living water. I think you wear that well.
