Well…we have been here for a little over a week, and are having such a great time! It sure is different here than Pittsburgh, and we have enjoyed seeing life “the California way” – the most amazing thing about where Andrew and Leigh live is the PRODUCE! Everywhere you go – everywhere you look – along almost every road – is every kind of produce tree/vine you can imagine!
Peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums, oranges, grapes (of every color), walnuts, almonds and pistachios – EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK!! I have made Leonard stop so many times on the side of the road so I can go up and look at the trees – it’s fascinating! Even in the middle of the suburbs and neighborhoods there are trees with produce growing!
We stopped at a roadside stand to get some plums, peaches and nectarines, and the man we spoke to said that, within a 30 mile radius of where we were, EIGHTY percent of the stone fruit (apricot, peach, nectarine, plum) is grown there for the ENTIRE UNITED STATES! That’s a lot of stone fruit!
Andrew and Leigh live in Hanford, California, and it is in the central valley, so there are mountains all around them! On a clear day you can see them wherever you drive! It is beautiful! We are happy for them, and they have a beautiful home and a wonderful Navy community here with them! They have taken their front and back yards and transformed them – Andrew is growing grapefruit, figs, lemons, limes, blueberries and pomegranates right there in his yard! Like I said, SO different from Pittsburgh!
We are so thankful for the opportunity to come our here and see the kids, see where they are “doing life” and see things here in California that we haven’t seen before – the time is going too fast!

God has really blessed the US. Your pictures just show us how beautiful it really is, California is truly blessed though. We lived with a navy community in Guam and really loved the sense of community it had. Their house looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing all of this with us.
