Hello again!!!
Well, we are officially in California!! This is our last night “on the road” and tomorrow we will arrive at our campground near Andrew and Leigh and Nolan!
What an adventure it’s been so far! We have had a great time, and enjoyed our trailer, and most of all, marveled at God’s majesty in HIS creation as we went across this great country of ours!
After my last post, we went to Amarillo, Texas and stayed at a great campground called “The Oasis” campground – the name is perfect, because you’re driving along and there’s nothing around, and then The Oasis appears! Ha-ha – it was a great stay and we went to a famous steakhouse for dinner – The Big Texan Steakhouse. One of their “claims to fame” is the 72-ounce steak challenge. If you can eat a 72-ounce steak, a baked potato, salad and a roll in one hour or less, it’s free! We had the privilege (not sure that’s the word) of watching someone TRY it – needless to say, he didn’t succeed! THAT’S A LOT OF STEAK!
Then we headed on to New Mexico! Wow, the scenery was AMAZING on the way between Amarillo and Albuquerque! From deserts on one side to mountains and mesas on the other, we were just mesmerized by what we saw!! It was a short travel day and we stayed at the ROUTE 66 Casino and Campground! Yes, there was a casino next to our campground! After a delicious dinner of Mexican Food in Old Town, we went into the casino just to see it – Each of us ended up spending ONE dollar on a slot machine and guess what? WE DIDN”T WIN!!!
Today we headed to Needles, California… again the scenery was incredible – desert, tumbleweeds, cactus, mountains, rock formations, and even rain coming down out of the mountains – I tried to get photos but they just don’t do it justice! (I will add some to the gallery so you can at least see what I am describing)
The most REMARKBLE ( and I’m not sure that’s the word) thing about Needles, California was the temperature when we arrived – it was ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN DEGREES!! I have never felt that type of hot before – the sun literally stung our skin when we were out of the shade! We had a little bit of a tough time setting up the trailer in that heat, but we did it and DIDN’T have heat stroke – SUCCESS!
This journey has been amazing so far, and tomorrow we arrive in Hanford, California, to see Andrew, Leigh and Nolan! What an adventure we have had so far – I just cannot get over how beautiful God’s creation is – the only other thing that made me feel the same way was when we went to Alaska – WOW!
Thank you so much for all of your kind comments, and for taking the time to follow along with us – hope it’s been a little interesting for you – it sure has for us!
Until next time…
Well now I want to drive out West also, after reading your blog! Sounds amazing!
You should do it! It’s beautiful!
So good to hear you and Leonard are doing well enjoying God’s creation. I’m so happy you are sharing your adventures with us and your grand pay off, seeing the kids, is coming soon.
I can’t even imagine how hot it must be for you to set up your trailer in 118 degrees temperature. You guys are amazing! Was it dry heat or humid heat? We are having 90 plus degrees, compared to 118, 90 is not even hot.
It was dry heat, but the sun actually burned my skin when I went outside! terrible!
I habe eaten at that same restaurant!! My daughter was there for a college horse competition. Good food!!
That’s so cool!!!
I want to go with you next time!
COME ON!!!
Yep! This makes me want to drive across country now!! So beautiful!! Thanks again for sharing your adventure with us.
It sure is a beautiful country for sure!
