Our next stop is a campground near Fundy National Park – wow! The beauty here is amazing!
We arrived at our campground, which backs up to a lake – what a great thing to wake up to every morning!

THE VIEW OUT THE BACK WINDOW IN THE BEDROOM!

One of my favorite things to do is arrive at the campground and then get started setting up the trailer on the inside! It’s like making it a home for a few days at a time…it feels cozy and home-y and I love being in it, especially when the weather is nice enough to keep all of our windows open – nothing better than the fresh air blowing through while we are in the trailer!

The main reason we wanted to be here here in this part of Canada was to go kayaking! There is a place called HOPEWELL ROCKS and it is hard to describe how amazing it is! You kayak around the rocks at high tide.

We had made this reservation many months before the trip, and never thought that there could be a hurricane out in the ocean that might affect our adventure! Well..that’s exactly what happened! The morning of our kayaking trip, we got a phone call from the Outdoor Adventures group and they informed us that our trip was cancelled because of the high winds and waves that were a result of hurricane Erin – even though it was SO far out in the Atlantic, the wind field was HUGE and reached us here in New Brunswick! The winds that day were gusting up to 40 mph and the water was too choppy – I for one am THANKFUL that they take this seriously and make safety their priority! I would have been a little anxious (maybe terrified?) to be out in a kayak in rough water and wind!
The good news!?!? We were able to reschedule for two days later!!! WOOHOO!!! So excited to see what the rocks look like from a kayak – we walked on the beach the day before at LOW tide to experience what that is like – wow!!! Looking up at these rocks (they are called FLOWER POT ROCKS) was so cool – they are huge!!! They are sandstone formations with trees growing out of the top!

One of the park guides told us that as the tide is coming in, it comes on the shore ONE FOOT A MINUTE!!! And then the depth rises ONE FOOT EVERY 5-7 MINUTES! That’s crazy! So our kayak tour will be once the water comes back in! Can’t wait!

We were able to “pivot” and come up with some other fun things to do in place of kayaking! First, we visited the little seaside town of Alma, New Brunswick! What a quaint little town filled with boats, shops and marinas – oh, and a BAKERY! (we sure do seem to find the food places – not sure if that’s good or bad!)

As we walked around and shopped, we quickly realized how thankful we were that our kayaking trip was cancelled! It was WINDY! We had a hard time walking around and, needless to say, were quite windblown at the end of the day! The strange thing was that the hurricane winds were so strong but it was a BEAUTIFUL day and the sun was shining the whole time!

After stopping at Alma, we went into the Fundy National Park to see POINT WOLFE BEACH – not knowing what to expect, we parked the car and walked ALL DOWNHILL to the beach (and you know what that means for our walk BACK!) haha – what a beautiful place!!!! It is an inlet in the Bay of Fundy and the water is beautiful! Because of the wind that day, the waves were awesome! And the rocks on the shore here are so different than anything I have ever seen! SO many colors and designs in the rocks! I have collected about 20 of them! Not sure what I will do with them – haha!
As we walked around the beach, Leonard spotted a seal playing out in the water! We watched him for a while – he was just enjoying the water!

It was definitely worth the stop to see it!

We also visited the town of Moncton, which is definitely the place to go for anything and everything when you live out here in the coastal towns! We even found….ANOTHER WAL MART! Haha – and of course we needed some more groceries, so we made a visit!
Leonard found a place for lunch that was amazing! It is called TONY’S and is a bistro and patisserie!

As soon as we walked in, we all knew he made a good choice! The quaintness of the restaurant and the beautiful pastry cases let us know we were about to have a great lunch!

Leonard and I shared a smash burger, and I have to say, it was the BEST burger I have ever had at a restaurant!! All of their food is either made there or sourced from local businesses – the bun on the burger was the softest bun I have had had, and it is called MILK BREAD. Never hearing of it, I looked it up and this is the description: MILK BREAD IS A SOFT, AIRY AND SLIGHTLY SWEET WHITE BREAD KNOWN FOR ITS FEATHERY TEXTURE AND MILKY FLAVOR. That is a PERFECT description! It was delish!

And…we only purchased ONE little pastry – a piece of carrot cake – I think that’s a big win!

After a wonderful lunch, we headed over to a place called MAGNETIC HILL!
Cars don’t just roll uphill do they? It’s impossible! But if you drive to the bottom of this hill, shift the car into neutral, you will be amazed! The car will roll uphill in total defiance of natural law, and when your brain is saying “this can’t be possible”? We wondered as we did it, “it is magnetic?” “Is it an illusion?” or is it “a mystery that we will never know?”

In reality, the road is sloping downwards, but the area and landscape surrounding it creates an optical illusion that trick your brain (and eyes!) into thinking JUST the opposite! It was really neat! Here is a part of a video I took outside the window as we drove – hope you can get a feel of what it was like!
IT’S KAYAKING TIME!!! We woke up to a beautiful day for the trip we had to reschedule! Our time was 5:00 pm, so we just relaxed around the campground most of the day, and then decided we would get to our tour an hour early so we could see the rocks at high tide and get some good pictures before we got in our kayaks! Leonard made lunch on the blackstone grill – scallops (that we had caught earlier this summer!), fried rice, and chicken thighs also on the blackstone – IT WAS DELISH!!!!!!

Just as we were about to get ready to go kayak, the phone rang… Leonard instantly said “the tour is going to be cancelled” – SURE ENOUGH! Even though it was a gorgeous day, the wind had picked up again and they said it was just too risky – the lady said some of the waves were about 6 FEET!!!!!! To say we were disappointed was an understatement!
We still wanted to see the rocks at high tide, so off we went! Here are some picutres and videos of the Hopewell Rocks at high tide – the SAME spot where we spent a couple of hours walking at low tide!

IMG_5820 (THESE STAIRS ARE WHERE WE WALKED AT LOW TIDE TO GET TO THE BOTTOM AND THE BEACH!!!!)
After seeing the water, the wind and the waves, we realized that it was definitely the right decision to cancel – and we said it was good that the decision was clear! Picturing us down in that water in kayaks was scary as we watched it!

Still an amazing thing to see the water, the rocks and the beach – at both LOW TIDE and HIGH TIDE! What a difference! It shows the power of the water and the tides! WOW!

SO….the few days here have been relaxing and fun! We had some nice “down time” at the campground, which we love, but also went on some fun adventures! So much to see and do at each place!
And, as always…so many beautiful and amazing places to see filled with God’s beauty and HIS majesty!!!

Tomorrow it’s on to PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND!
Until next time….
