Well…it’s that time again – the MASTERS GOLF TOURNAMENT in Augusta, Georgia!!! One of our favorite things to do every year! My parents started getting tickets back in the 60s, and we grew up having the opportunity to go to the tournament. We always knew that when my parents passed away, we would lose the tickets (they don’t get to stay in the family)…and then GOD blessed us!!! The year before COVID my brother received a letter from Augusta National that they were re-instating the legacy program (which hadn’t been done in a long, long time!) and that if a legal child of my parents would complete a form, he or she could become a patron! So my brother did JUST that! He is now a patron and we will continue to have these two tickets to all FOUR days of the tournament! The timing of the letter was crazy, because my mom passed away the next year, during COVID.
I’m sure most of you have seen at least some part of the tournament, the golf course and everything around it – the trees, the flowers, the birds chirping – is INCREDIBLE – it’s more beautiful than it looks on TV, and I think it looks great on TV! I always tell people that when you enter through the gates, it’s like going into the Garden of Eden! SPECTACULAR!
We love to watch all the golfers on the first two days – no one has missed the cut in those two days, and we get to watch EVERYONE! We put our chairs right in front of the green on Hole #2 and leave them there all day! We watch for a while, walk around the course, and then come back and watch some more – It’s a perfect place to sit
This year, we did something totally different – usually we stay an hour away in Columbia, SC, at a Hampton Inn and we get up super early to make the one hour drive to the golf course. Leonard did some research and found a campground just a few miles from the course, and we took the Airstream to stay there! Everyone who stays there that week is there for the Masters!
On the way to Augusta, we stopped at a KOA in Wytheville, VA the first night – what a beautiful campground with a view of the mountains – we imagined the beauty of it in the fall with the trees in different colors, and we will definitely go back!
When we arrived at the campgound by the golf course, we felt special as we were “escorted” to our campsite and saw our reserved sign!
We got all set up, walked around the campground, looked at all of the HUGE motorhomes that were there – once again, our Airstream was one of the smallest trailers in the whole campground – I always tell Leonard we look like a keychain compared to everyone else! Just so you know I am not exaggerating…
LOOK HOW BIG THEY ARE!!!!
The next morning, off we went to the tournament! You can’t take phones or cameras in, so there are no good photos of the actual course. But here we are getting ready to go in !
Our time at the Masters was wonderful, and the campground was great too!!! We hope to do it next year again! The best part of the Masters this year was the winner – Scottie Scheffler! We rooted for him because, not only is he a GREAT golfer, but he is a Christian! He is very vocal about his faith and we love that!
After the tournament, we headed with the trailer back to Florida to leave the trailer until our cross country trip – COMING UP SOON!!! We are so excited, because we LOVE the trailer and we LOVE seeing our country! Since, we left the trailer there, we flew home — for those of you who really know me, I am a fearful flyer – not my favorite thing to do by a longshot! But once again, God blessed us with a perfectly CLEAR weather day – from Florida all the way to Pittsburgh! It was amazing and so smooth – and the best part is that we flew over our condo as we took off (we can always see it out the window!)…and then we flew over our house as we were coming in to land!!! We saw Upper St. Clair high school and then looked and saw our street and our house (which is right across from the high school) – WHAT A FUN WAY TO START AND END THE FLIGHT!
(the circled part is the condos!!!)
Well, I think I have rambled enough! Thanks for “listening” as usual!!!
We will be heading out soon to see some of the same things we saw last year as we traveled, plus lots of NEW ones! I look SO forward to showing some of the highlights to you!! It’s fun to share it!!!
