We waved goodbye to the kids and to Nolan (which was hard to do!) and headed to New Mexico! We had a long first day and stopped in Flagstaff, Arizona first – the most AMAZING thing about that stop was the temperature!
We had been in hot weather in California, as well as every step on our way out to California – when we arrived in Flagstaff, it was 69 degrees!!! For the first time, we opened up all of the windows in the trailer that evening! It was delightful and we sat outside and enjoyed the coolness!
We were headed to Farmington, New Mexico the next day, to meet the ladies from the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT group that have been meeting on zoom together every week since October of 2020!!! We talked for a while about meeting in person, and it actually happened!!!! Five out of the nine of us met in Farmington, New Mexico and stayed with Roger and Carol Kittle, who work for Navajo Ministries. WOW – WHAT A BLESSING IT WAS AND ONE OF THE BEST TIMES I’VE EVER HAD!
Three of the ladies were flying into Albuquerque and then being picked up by Roger and Carol to come back to Farmington. One gal, Janna, had BOTH of her flights cancelled while she waited at the airport! She tried every way possible to get to Albuquerque, or Durango, CO, or even Farmington’s teeny tiny airport….to no avail – there were no flights to get her there. As we were driving to Flagstaff, I said to Leonard “can she fly into Flagstaff and ride the 5 hours to Farmington with us?” …SO…she talked to the airline agent one more time and guess what? THERE WAS A FLIGHT TO FLAGSTAFF THAT EVENING!!!! She got the LAST seat available on the flight – she went to Phoenix and then to Flagstaff! Our campground was 10 minutes from the hotel where she stayed that night, and we just drove over to the hotel the next morning, and she hopped in the truck with us!!!!!!
ONLY GOD WOULD WORK OUT THOSE DETAILS FOR US! We were so excited, and the blessing for me was that I got to know Janna in those five hours – we had a great time!
We arrived in Farmington, and as we pulled into the Navajo Ministry Four Corners Home for Children (where Roger and Carol live and work) we spotted the other gals jumping up and down yelling for us – they had a poster welcoming us and we all jumped out of the car and hugged each other like we had known each other for years!
What a blessing it was to be with everyone – to get to know them – to see and hear about Navajo Ministries – to talk about the Lord – to pray together – to share meals together – IT WAS GREAT!
I am so thankful to be part of this amazing group of women who all have sons in the Navy – they were all on deployment together on the USS Theodore Roosevelt and we have really become FRIENDS.
So thankful for the time in Farmington, New Mexico – oh, and by the way, the scenery there is SPECTACULAR! I’ve never seen anything like it – we went to a place called SHIP ROCK, and it’s so amazing to see creation and the beauty in our country! Here are some pictures of it!
Have a blessed day!
