Well, it’s time to get the Airstream out of storage and head out on a short camping adventure!
We sure have missed it, especially since we were in it for about 5 weeks this summer! Driving it to the storage facility to “put it up” for a while was really sad – ha-ha! We said “goodbye for now” and drove away, knowing we would make another trip before we take it to Florida for the winter.
A friend told us about Rocky Gap, Maryland, and how pretty it is, so we made a reservation!!!
An easy three-hour drive on Friday, and we arrived! We pulled into our space and were surprised how many people were camping – the weather forecast for the ENTIRE weekend was RAIN – thanks to hurricane Ian! We decided to come anyway and are so glad we did!
We arrived on Friday around 3:30 and it WASN”T raining – but that was short lived! We went exploring for a while and walked around the lake that is here – we could feel the rain coming in the air –
After getting back to the trailer, and grilling outside for dinner, we started hearing big raindrops on the roof of the Airstream – LET ME JUST SAY THAT THE SOUND OF RAINDROPS ON THE ALUMINUM ROOF IS AMAZING! It’s a great way to drift off to sleep!
Fast forward to Saturday morning – guess what it was doing???
RAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It didn’t stop all day! We stayed in the Airstream all morning, relaxing and doing our CBS lessons, and then around lunchtime we headed out to do a little exploring in Cumberland, Maryland. Another friend is from that area, so she suggested a place for us to have lunch – D’ATRI’S – and let me just say…IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! (thank you Lori!)
After driving around for a while, we headed back to the campground – guess what was happening when we got back? IT WAS STILL RAINING!
We hunkered back down in the trailer and watched college football for the rest of the afternoon – no complaints about the rain from us! Had another good night’s sleep listening to the rain on the roof!
Waking up Sunday morning brought the same…RAINING!! (so thankful we weren’t in a tent!). We headed off to take a ride on the Maryland Scenic
Railroad – it is a four hour train trip, leaving from Cumberland, stopping in Frostburg for an hour, and then returning to Cumberland. A little rain isn’t going to stop us! OR A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE! It was a great experience – we had a nice, warm enclosed train car!
We enjoyed the trip, and looked around Frostburg (STILL RAINING!) and found a coffee place named Clatter’s – it was wonderful and we had coffee and shared a bagel – delish!
Back to the train for the ride home – one of the most fun things was taking videos to send to Nolan in California – we had a facetime call with him and he wanted to know why we were riding on a train!
Pulling into the campground for our last night before heading home Monday morning was strange, because almost EVERYONE that had been there all weekend “with us” was gone! What a strange feeling!
BUT GUESS WHAT???? The rain has stopped!!!!!! We are grilling outside for dinner again and are going to enjoy our last night on our little adventure – everything is water-logged but we are nice and warm and dry!
THE FUNNY THING IS THAT, WHEN WE PLANNED THIS TRIP, WE WERE SO EXCITED ABOUT BEING ABLE TO OPEN THE WINDOWS BECAUSE IT’S FALL AND THE TEMPERATURES ARE FINALLY COOL…..NOT THIS TIME! We had to keep them closed all weekend – AND had to turn on the furnace too! AT LEAST WE KNOW IT WORKS AND IT WORKS GREAT! We were toasty warm!
We decided that, even if it’s a rainy, cold weekend, we love being in the Airstream – we love being at campgrounds with all kinds of people camping also – we love being outside – we love exploring new places – and most of all, we love making new memories – ONE STOP AT A TIME!
Gotta say, that sounds like a GREAT weekend. Glad you got to experience it and share with us!
It seems like having fun camping in the airstream is not dependent on the weather! The train ride looked so cool!! Glad you guys are enjoying your best life!!
It was so fun – hoping to do it with you some day!
So much fun! I love that you still went out and about exploring, even when in the middle of a tropical storm/hurricane effects and went on the train ride. And you still got quality snuggle time in the camper. A perfect get-away!
A little rain never stopped us! haha
Sounds like a great weekend, even with all that rain! How lovely to fall asleep to the sound of the rain on the airstream – I can imagine how wonderful that was. Thanks for another fab post!
Sounds like you had an amazing time…even in the rain. Do you know anything about the church you took a pic of?
I don’t know about the church – i think it was a little Methodist church – thought it was so pretty!
👍🏻☺️🌧
Especially enjoying your pictures 😊
THANK YOU!!!
LOVED it! Sometimes God makeup you to lie down to restore your soul. We run so hard all the time. I love the rain.
AMEN TO THAT!!! A little rain won’t stop us!
That sounds like a wonderful trip, Susan – even with the rain. Love the coziness of the airstream!
Also want to remember D’Atri’s when we’re traveling through Cumberland!
What a great way to spend time with your husband, meet new friends and have an adventure. We are excited to hear about all your future adventures to come !
