If you notice the second word of the title of today’s post is in all CAPITAL letters – that’s because it was truly GRAND and deserves to be accentuated!!! We left California, which was bittersweet, because it was hard to leave Andrew and Leigh and…
THESE TWO!!!!!! They have captured our hearts for sure!
It was a long day of driving (8 hours) but we made it to our RV park – we stayed at the Grand Canyon Railway RV park, which was part of the Grand Canyon Railway – we had reservations the next day to ride the train to the Grand Canyon – we were so excited for this adventure!
It was a little over two hours on the train, and the scenery was beautiful as we approached the Grand Canyon – then we had three hours to explore, and also took a bus tour (called the Freedom Tour) to see some of the most beautiful overlooks of the canyon! I was at the Grand Canyon when I was about 10, and Leonard was also there as a kid, but we both said that it was like seeing it for the first time – honestly, I just can’t get over GOD’S majesty in HIS creation – breathtaking!
By the way, it may LOOK like I am comfortable sitting on that wall with the canyon behind me – I can ASSURE you I wasn’t – what a weird feeling to have the wall be the only thing separating the ground and the drop off of the canyon below! I faked it well for the photo op!!!
Sorry for all the photos – every view and every angle was so beautiful – I wanted you to experience it with us!
The next day we decided to drive into Sedona, Arizona because people had told us how beautiful it was – we started off on our journey and, I have to say, the drive there was amazing – we went on the Oak Creek Canyon Drive – it is a 14 mile drive between Sedona and Flagstaff and may I say, it is SO gorgeous! I was so busy just looking out the window of the truck that I didn’t get any photos from the car, but here are some I found online!
This is EXACTLY what it looked like! As we approached Sedona, it was even more spectacular!
Before we left, we wanted to do a hike/walk on a trail, so we chose to try BELL ROCK – you start on a sandy trail and then it becomes ROCKS that you climb! The trail is marked (thank goodness!) but you are literally climbing! We were having so much fun, but realized pretty quickly that ONE water bottle between us wasn’t going to be enough – it was 87 degrees and not a cloud in the sky (as you can see from the pictures!) – so we did as much as we could and didn’t want to overdo it – but for two OLD people, we were proud of ourselves!
Here is a picture of the rock and then a picture of how far we made it!
this is how far we saw people climb….
Before I sign off, here are a few more photos of our hike/climb up the mountain!!! What a great day it was!
Thanks as always for “joining us” on our travels!!! Next stop…SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO!!!
Until next time…
On my bucket list, up high towards the top of the list, is to go with you 2 on one of your trips. You 2 find the most fun things to do….amazing! The pictures are incredible! Have you ever considered making a shutterfly book for each of your big trips? It would be so much fun to have these memories all nice and full color, to pull off the shelf anytime and look at them again. And to show the grandkids. Think on it. I would help you if you have never done it.
You are sweet- come along with us sometime!!! I love making books on Shutterfly! i just may do that!
We went on the Grand Canyon train as well. Are the bad guys still on the train holding people up? Beautiful pix. I know what you mean about being so high and sitting with the canyon behind you. I remember how jaw dropping it was.
Thank you for your prayers
Yes, the “bad” guys still hold up the train! it was silly but glad to have been part of the experience!!!
One thing I learned visiting the canyon is pictures do not do it justice. It’s just not the same. It’s a jaw dropping experience being there in person. Your pictures are first rate, nevertheless, especially for those who will never be able to go.
Thanks for those nice comments – I do know that the pictures don’t compare to seeing it all in person!
These photos are spectacular!! I love being able to see these sights along side of you!!
Thanks!!!
Beautiful photos! So glad you had a great time in AZ!!!
We really loved Arizona!
So beautiful! What a great trip you two are having! Thanks for sharing pictures of your adventures!! Miss you!
Thanks for looking at the pics – miss you too!
Those pictures are spectacular! We did that exact trip when the kids were younger, and my thought was the same about the beauty of God’s creation. Pictures can’t express its magnificence, but you came really close with those!
THanks so much! Isn’t it beautiful out there!!! such wide open skies!
I’m so happy for you two to have all these great experiences. Loved your pictures of the Canyon, and the beautiful skies you captured! Who’s taking the photos!
Thanks LuLu! We stopped someone to take pictures of us together!
Just wow!!! Amazing!
