We had to go again….

Posted on October 8, 2023October 8, 2023

Well…we just HAD to get another camping trip in up here before we take the trailer to Florida for the winter!  We tried to find a campground that had space – from Hershey, PA to the Amish country in Ohio, to Stonewall Jackson Resort in West Virginia – to no avail!!!  EVERYTHING was booked!

We checked with a campground where we stayed last year – Hidden Springs Campground right outside of Cumberland Maryland – and guess what?  They had TWO spots available!!!  WOOHOO!!!!  So we reserved a spot and headed out on Friday morning, excited and ready to be back in the Airstream, out in the beautiful fall weather!!!

Thanks to Todd and Lori, we even have a personalized flag now!!!!

Friday afternoon and evening were COLD and RAINY, so we made homemade pizza on the grill and ate inside and watched it rain!  Saturday came and was a bit better, but it was still CHILLY!  We had 80 degrees last week and now it’s cold!  (although I love this weather!)

We headed off for the Bedford Fall Foliage Festival on a beautiful fall day – the leaves are changing into the prettiest yellows, oranges and reds, and because it was windy, the leaves were blowing in the air as we drove – gorgeous!

We even had a “visitor” as we drove – this leaf hung on to our antenna the whole time!

The Bedford Fall festival was great – we did lots of walking and looking at craft booths, homemade, jewelry, homemade cutting boards, homemade pottery, and LOTS OF FOOD booths!  We didn’t buy any crafts but we DID get four things….

MAPLE SYRUP, MAPLE CREAM (never heard of it, but anxious to try it), CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER GOB, AND A PUMPKIN GOB!!!  You see our priorities!!!

What a great day we had, and we came back to the campground and took a nice long walk, talked to some nice people camping near us, and watched college football in the trailer – both kids’ college teams won – ALABAMA and FLORIDA!

Today (Sunday) we drove to Shanksville, PA to see the Flight 93 Memorial and wow – what a sobering and important memorial that everyone needs to see if possible!  It’s a cold and windy day, but there were so many people there – that was good to see!  The entire story of the tragedy of 9/11 is told and, of course, the highlight is on Flight 93.  WOW – those crew members and passengers on that flight are definitely HEROES!  The way they came together to stop the flight from heading on to Washington, DC, knowing it wasn’t going to end well, is something I can’t understand – what selfless sacrifice!

There is a black walkway that leads out to a view of the crash site and debris field, and the walkway shows the flight path as the plane was about to crash…strange to walk along it.

On the way out of the memorial, we stopped at the TOWER OF VOICES – it is a tower that was built and is 93 feet high (for the flight number) and has wind chimes that make noise strictly from the wind – because it was so windy, the chimes were making beautiful noise while we stopped!!!!  What a beautiful tribute to the people aboard and their sacrifice and bravery.

Hopefully you can hear some of the beautiful sounds….(it’s windy but if you listen close, you should be able to hear)

What a great weekend it’s been,  and we will head home tomorrow – so thankful for this time to enjoy the blessings of the Lord – and to see His creation all around us!

Thank you AS ALWAYS for reading and “coming along” as we see different places and experience different things!  We are so grateful!

Next time will be as we drive the trailer south for the winter!  (WE will be back though – just the trailer will be in Florida- haha)

Sounds like a wonderful time. Glad you could get a “last” trip in…unless you decide to try one more before the journey south.

Thanks for taking us along again!
We have not been to that Memorial yet, but it looks to be an amazing and sobering memorial, one that was needed to honor those who gave their lives.
