We got back in the trailer and took a weekend trip with friends! It was hard to come back home after traveling with the Airstream and put it in storage, so we couldn’t wait to go away again even for a few days!
Our friend Todd and Lori have a trailer too, so we made a reservation at a campground near Lake Erie – off we headed on Friday morning after Leonard’s annual cardiology appointment (HE GOT ANOTHER CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH AND THEY SAID THE BEST WORDS…”SEE YOU NEXT YEAR”!!!)
We pulled into the campground and the first thing we noticed when we got out of our vehicles…..MOSQUITOS!!!!!!! Everywhere! They had a lot of rain there recently so the mosquitos were out in full force! One of the first things we did after setting up was a trip to Walmart for BUG SPRAY! It was a must!
We relaxed the rest of Friday and had a great dinner – pizza on the grill! Unfortunately we had to eat inside because…..MOSQUITOS! We would have been “eaten” while WE were eating if it had been outside! haha
Saturday morning we were actually able to eat outside because the MOSQUITOS must have still been sleeping! We had an amazing breakfast (mostly cooked by Todd and Lori) of pancakes, eggs, bacon and fruit! YUM! After breakfast we headed off for our full day – we had a ferry ride over to Put In Bay, where we rented a golf cart to go all around the island!
The weather said it was going to be about 70 and sunny/cloudy mixed – so we dressed accordingly – OR SO WE THOUGHT!!!!! As soon as we got to the ferry terminal, we all realized we probably needed different clothing – especially ME! We got to the line to board the ferry and quickly realized how many people had the exact same idea as we did that day!
We were the LAST to board, and as we watched all the people get on before us, we quickly realized that we would be sitting on the TOP deck – NOT inside where we were hoping! We knew we would be cold on the 30 minute ride! Here were our seats!
The ferry ride was beautiful but COLD – and Lori and I had been so worried about our hair (typical woman thing to be worried about) – that worry was squashed as SOON as we started the ride!
We survived the trip on the ferry and rented our golf cart for our day at Put In Bay – what fun we had touring the island, shopping at some of the stores, eating at a GREAT restaurant, and getting HOT coffee to keep us warm! We found a campground there and realized that in order to camp there, you have you send your vehicle AND trailer over on a ferry too! There are NO roads to the island at all! Crazy! What a fun fun day we had with friends, seeing a new place we had never been! And the thing we did the most was LAUGH!
When we went back to the campground, we had to get warm, so we built a fire and actually were able to sit outside without MOSQUITOS getting us too badly! Here was our fire pit at the campsite!
What a great weekend we had with good friends! We will be doing it again and seeing NEW places each time! God is so good and we were blessed to see HIS beauty in creation once again!
Thanks for “coming along”!
Another great adventure. I hadn’t heard of Put in Bay. So fun to see all the places you see . Sounded like a lot of fun except for the mosquitoes 🦟
I had never heard of it either!
I, also, have never heard of Put in Bay. You find all these fun places. You could be a travel agent if you ever wanted to!
And mosquitoes…… they are an insect that I, every year, wonder why God created them. They are so a deterrent to being outside and enjoying God’s amazing beauty.
You 2 look good
I had never heard of it either! And I am laughing about your comment about the mosquitoes-and after visiting you during “mosquito season”, I know that YOU understand those pesky bugs!
Such a fun weekend filled with laughter and great fellowship! Even the mosquitos couldn’t ruin our plans! Susan and Leonard, we’ll travel with you anywhere!
And we feel the same! Let’s plan our next trip!
What a wonderful adventure with great friends! I’ve always heard about Put In Bay but have never seen it! Looks like so much fun! Thanks for sharing your weekend with us!🥰
Thanks for reading it!
Your chilly, island adventure sounds pretty good to me! It’s awesome you don’t have to travel way far away to experience some new scenery & make some happy memories!
As always-thanks for sharing!
Thank YOU as always for reading!
So glad y’all had fun
These are fabulous pictures!! Looks like you guys had a blast!! Do you think you would ever camp on the island where you have to have your camper sent over on a ferry?
We would probably not camp there but it was cool!
Looks like fun!
It was!
So glad you had this opportunity to go to Put-in-Bay. Happier at Leonard’s health report. Sorry about the mosquitos….no fun.
Thanks! It was really fun and we prevailed over those mosquitoes! Haha
